Sea & Beaches

Following the coast west of Kavala

From city beaches to Palio, Nea Iraklitsa, Nea Peramos and Ammolofoi, the western coast offers a beach for every pace.

Kavala’s western coast changes gradually from urban swimming spots to resort villages and broad sandy beaches. Kalamitsa and Batis are close to the city, while Palio stretches along coves and neighbourhood beaches just beyond it.

Farther west, Nea Iraklitsa and Nea Peramos combine beaches, tavernas and evening walks. Ammolofoi is known for long sand and organised sections, but quieter stretches can often be found away from the busiest entrances.

A car gives the most flexibility, although local and regional buses serve parts of the coast. In high summer, travel earlier in the day and check the latest bus timetable rather than relying on old travel articles.

Treat the coastline as a sequence rather than a single destination. Choose a nearby beach for a short swim, or make a full day of the villages farther west with lunch and a sunset return to Kavala.
